Canberra Christian Community Tithing Program
Updated April 2009
Introduction
Applications for the Tithing Program or approaches made to the Christian Community for donations are reviewed on an ongoing basis throughout each year. Applications should be received within in the scope of two funding rounds that happen twice annually. The dates for these are from 1 July through to 31 December, or 1 January through to 30 June each year, though the committee has the discretion, should it see fit, to consider applications on the basis of need and timeliness throughout the calendar year.
Amounts donated or tithed to appropriate causes that meet the application criteria are dependent on the level of funds available for donation by the Christian Community at the given time of application for the tithe and the number of successful applications that are received at the time the Management Committee considers applications for funding.
Unspent funds from the tithing program will be carried forward into subsequent financial years.
Application requirements are outlined below.
Christian Community Tithing Program
- Appropriateness of Activity
The values and aims supported by the Christian Community are underpinned by the core human values of compassion and understanding for all beings. The renewal of a Christian Community comprises a renewal of human relations that include both material and spiritual needs. Hence an activity supporting these principles and intentions could qualify for a grant through the tithing program. The Christian Community already has programs worldwide that include support for the elderly, the disabled, young children, teenagers and students.
Applicants for the grant through the tithing program should supply an application consisting of:
A letter of application outlining details behind the request;
A succinct summary of the proposal requiring the funding;
A budget or plan outlining relevant timeframes and costs;
At least two character references.
The Christian Community sets aside approximately ten percent of its surplus funds for the tithing program. Amounts available are dependent on annual surplus and the number of applicants for the grants. Submitting an application does not guarantee applicants a grant. All applications will be treated in confidence within the committee and decisions are made on the merits of each individual application. The dollar amount of grants will depend on the year on year surplus and the number of applicants. Grants will be paid at the end of the calendar year and mid-year. There will also be provisions for exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the management committee.
